You can’t beat a good murder mystery and ITV has made the genre their own in recent years with new arrivals like McDonald and Dodds and Grace as well as stalwarts such as Endeavour, Vera and Midsomer Murders.
The latest entry in ITV’s murder mystery collection is Murder in Provence, a sun-soaked and wine-drenched drama set in the south of France.
After episode 1 introduced viewers to the show’s central cast, episode 2 of Murder in Provence will see Roger Allam and Nancy Carroll joined by a host of fresh faces.

Murder in Provence episode 2 release date and plot preview
After landing on ITV, Murder in Provence returns for episode 2 on Sunday, July 24, 2022 at 8pm.
Following the introduction of investigative judge Antoine Verlaque and his romantic partner Marine Bonnet last time out, the pair are called into action once again following the death of a wealthy aristocrat.
Now working as a consultant for the police, Marine helps Antoine and Hélène in the latest case at the crumbling chateau, which involves mysteriously missing financial documents, a suspicious sibling and curious links to a pair of Russian millionaires.
However, just when the team think they’ve got their suspects nailed, another body is found, sending the investigation in a whole new direction.

Cast spotlight
Ashley Russell as Étienne de Bremont
We begin our deep dive into some of the episode 2 cast members with Ashley Russell who takes on the role of aristocrat Étienne de Bremont.
TV fans will likely know Ashley best from his stints on Pie in the Sky and Jupiter Moon from the 1990s while more recently he appeared in a 2019 episode of EastEnders.
Jonathan Aris as Lucien de Bremont
Taking on the role of Étienne’s brother Lucien is Jonathan Aris who Sherlock fans will instantly recognise as Anderson.
The actor has almost 100 roles to his name meaning fans will likely have seen him elsewhere too, with notable roles coming in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, The End of the F***ing World, The Night Manager, Humans, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, Sky’s The Lucky Man and The Death of Stalin while he is also due to appear in season 3 of His Dark Materials.
Sara Powell as Cosette Faraud
Jamaica-born Sara Powell takes on the role of Cosette Faraud in episode 2.
Fans will have seen her most recently in Doctor Who, where she played real-life nurse Mary Seacole, while she has also appeared in Death in Paradise, Unforgotten, Damned, Silent Witness, Little Boy Blue and the film Last Christmas.
Flora Montgomery as Isabelle de Bremont
Flora Montgomery appears in episode 2 as Isabelle de Bremont.
The Northern Ireland-born actress has almost 50 roles to her name with previous appearances coming in A Very English Scandal, Endeavour, Murdoch Mysteries and Father & Son while she is also set to appear as Norma Major – the wife of former prime minister, John Major – in season 5 of The Crown.

Melanie Gutteridge as Béatrice de Keppel Valois
Melanie Gutteridge will be familiar to many viewers when she takes on the role of Béatrice de Keppel Valois in episode 2.
That’s because the actress has recently appeared in Channel 4’s recent arrival The Undeclared War while other roles have seen her appear in The Salisbury Poisonings, kids’ show Goldie’s Oldies, The Bill, Rockface and the video game Alien: Isolation.
Samuel Barnett as Didier Laurent
Played by Samuel Barnett, Didier Laurent is a notable new arrival in episode 2 as he is a close friend of Marine and the sociable owner of a book shop in the centre of Aix.
With more than 40 roles to his name, Samuel Barnett will be familiar to many thanks to appearances in the BBC’s Four Lives, Penny Dreadful, Beautiful People, Twenty Twelve, The History Boys, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency alongside Elijah Wood and the video games Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077.
Lizzy McInnerny as Maria Pogarovsky
Lizzy McInnerny takes on the curious role of Russian millionaire Maria Pogarovsky in episode 2.
The Cheshire-born actress has almost 60 roles to her name with her biggest appearances coming in the likes of Back to Life, as well as several Netflix shows including Behind Her Eyes, The Haunting of Bly Manor and The Crown.
Max Gold as Lever Pogarovsky
Joining Lizzy as fellow Russian Lever is London-born actor Max Gold.
His career has seen him appear in just over 30 roles with appearances in Poldark, Endeavour and several episodes of EastEnders in the mid-1990s.
