Indiana school janitor’s singing video goes viral

Richard went viral after singing at the end of the school year. The students and staff held a talent show to celebrate the graduation of fifth-graders.

At the end of the programme, the teachers asked the janitor to sing and Richard sang Don’t Stop Believin. The teachers at the school know all about the janitor’s talents, which is why they ask him to sing every year.

Richard, who usually performed songs like Lee Greenwood’s God Bless the USA, chose the band Journey’s hit 1981 track this time.

Mariah Denehie, a school worker who aids a special needs student at Davis Park, shot a video of Richard’s performance and posted it on TikTok on May, 27.

The next day, Mariah told Richard that his video had garnered 107,000 views.

“I’m looking at her like, ‘OK, is that good?’” the janitor recalled while speaking to Fox.

‘I’ve never had that many,” said Mariah

“By the end of the weekend, it was at like a million,” Richard said.

At the time of writing, the video has been viewed over 3 million times.

He also auditioned to be on The Voice

After Richard Goodall’s video singing Journey’s song went viral, he appeared for a virtual audition for The Voice.

The janitor sang Don’t Stop Believin’ again but was turned down.

“I’m just a regular person … I’m happy. I’m so thankful that I have food in my belly and a roof over my head and that I’m warm in the winter and cool in the summer,” he later said.

Richard’s clip caught the eyes of Steve Perry, the former lead singer of Journey who co-wrote the song Don’t Stop Believin’.

Steve shared the video and captioned it, “I love this,” on his socials on June 29.
