The Marvel fandom has issued nothing but praise for the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever trailer that carried many emotional beats.

The big question on everyone’s mind, however, is who will become the Black Panther and Marvel fans are already discussing who they would like to see.

Directed by Ryan Coogler and starring  Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Florence Kasumba, and more, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever shows a union in the kingdom of Wakanda against the Atlanteans after King T’Challa’s death.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever trailer recap

It was an emotional time for the Black Panther 2 cast on stage at Marvel Studios’ San Diego Comic-Con, debuting the sequel without T’Challa actor Chadwick Boseman – who passed away in 2020.

To close the panel, the first trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was revealed, showcasing a time of union in Wakanda after the passing of T’Challa against Namor and the Atlanteans.

While most of the trailer featured individual characters including Shuri, Nakia, Okoye, and more, the Black Panther mantle remained unfulfilled – until the final shot.

The closing scene shows Black Panther from behind, readying the suit claws against what looks like Namor, but the identity of the hero remains a mystery.

Marvel fans debate who will be the next Black Panther

Aside from analyzing the final shot to determine if it was a male or female character in the suit, some fans also believe that there will be multiple Black Panthers to fulfill the mantle after T’Challa.

Reasons for Shuri, Nakia, and M’Baku becoming the Wakanda warrior have been shared, and T’Challa’s mother Ramonda also has the right to the mantle as well.

everyone is talking about who will be the next Black panther if Shuri or Kill Monger or the one from the other tribe. but no one is mentioned to the mother Ramonda who also has the right to be the new Black panther#Marvel #BlackPanther #BlackPantherWakandaForever pic.twitter.com/Iezra9EkYv— FILMBIONICX_OFFICIAL (@filmbionicx) July 24, 2022

Marvel decided not to recast T’Challa

During The Ringer-Verse Podcast, Marvel’s VP of Development Nate Moore addressed rumors that claimed T’Challa would be recast after Chadwick Boseman’s passing.

However, Moore confirmed back in 2021 that the studio decided not to recast:

“I’m being quite honest, you will not see T’Challa in the MCU. We have to figure out how to move this franchise on without that character,” he went on. Because I think we all feel so much of T’Challa in the MCU on the screen…is tied to Chadwick’s performance. The challenge for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is telling a story without T’Challa.”

MCU VP of Development Nate Moore puts to rest any discussion about recasting the character of T’challa as Black Panther. Says he talked with Ryan Coogler about it, and “we just couldn’t do it” more on @RingerVerse.
