Marcus Edwards has told Jeremie Mukendi it has been a ‘long road’ for him after he shared that he is feeling ‘fit and healthy’ for the first time in Tottenham Hotspur colours, as he posted on Instagram.

The Tottenham 21-year-old shared that the past three years have been ‘full of heartbreak and obstacles’, but he thinks he is now over them.

Dane Scarlett, another promising youngster in Tottenham’s academy, added in the comments section to Mukendi’s post ‘we keep going’.

ONE-TIME WONDERKIND MARCUS EDWARDS

When Tottenham were under Mauricio Pochettino’s stewardship, the team were really showcasing their worth and outdoing a number of top teams, despite their budget.

During their highs of regular Champions League finishes, they had a star growing in their academy and a player Pochettino even likened to Lionel Messi.

Every youngster coming through is the ‘next (interest name)’, but to have your talents compared to that of Messi’s, especially by a former Argentina international, is going to grab the attention of many.

It’s probably not surprising to hear that Edwards hasn’t lived up to that hype, although, it’s pretty amazing that he only made one senior appearance for Spurs.

The now-23-year-old left his boyhood club in 2019 and he is now plying his trade in Portugal, with Sporting Lisbon, who were pipped to the title by Porto last season.

It was a season of promise for Edwards and one where he delivered because he scored ten goals and supplied six assists from his 30 league games.

It will be interesting if this current road in Portugal leads him back to England because he is starting to mature and now added much-needed experience to his game.
