Granit Xhaka has called on Mikel Arteta to allow Arsenal fans to come and watch the first-team train at London Colney.

What’s the story?

Well, the £35m man admitted that it makes him “disappointed and sad” that the Gunners supporters are unable to see just how hard he and his teammates work for the club.

As quoted by the Express, Xhaka said: “Everyone has bad days on the pitch. That’s why I’ve spoken with the club about bringing the fans once a week to training.

“It’s not like we waste our time here and only care about the 90 minutes. We care more than people think. Me, Aaron (Ramsdale) and others can’t sleep after a game when we lose. Nobody can see that, and it makes me disappointed and sad.”

Interestingly – as the Switzerland international states – this is something that German football is far more open to, and having experienced it at Borussia Monchengladbach, he clearly feels it would be beneficial for Arsenal.

In our view, Xhaka is right.

The release of Amazon Prime’s All or Nothing documentary, which focuses on the Arsenal first-team, has given fans an insight into the human side of the game, and has hopefully helped people understand just how much strain these players are under.

Therefore, having a group of supporters come to watch training – albeit in a respectful manner – would surely help to strengthen the bond between Arteta, the players and the fanbase.

Of course, Arteta would potentially be wary of these fans leaking tactical information on social media, although it would be pretty unwise of Arsenal fans to give away their own side’s game plan.

Granit Xhaka could start something at Arsenal

If Xhaka finds that his talks with the Gunners have been successful, he could pave the way for a brand new addition to English football in having open training sessions.

Supporters always tend to arrive in their numbers when clubs announce an open training session on the rare occasion, usually during pre-season, so it would surely be a popular addition to football in this country.

As Xhaka states, it would also hopefully go some way to helping fans realise just how much work goes into each 90 minute game throughout the week.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, to see if Xhaka has been successful in his attempts to open London Colney.
