Liverpool cruised to a 5-0 win over Bundesliga side RB Leipzig on Thursday night, largely thanks to four goals from Darwin Nunez – and here are our player ratings from the friendly in Germany.

Adrian – 7 (60, replaced by Davies)

Very solid display from Liverpool’s third-choice goalkeeper. Perhaps should have come out for a flighted cross into the box, but other than that, good display. Made an excellent save towards the end of the first half.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 8 (60, replaced by Milner)

Some nice passing and while he got forward and was caught out of position at times, recovered his right-back slot well. Almost a gorgeous outside of the foot pass to Diaz in first half, assist for Nunez’s second.

Ibrahima Konate – 4 (45, replaced by Matip)

Mediocre in possession but for once, the Frenchman looked slightly fragile in the air up against Leipzig target man Alexander Sorloth. Poor touch in last moments of first half allowed Leipzig in, but Adrian saved him.

Newcastle and Tottenham want Leeds star, but Elland Road is his best moveRobin Koch an unsung hero at right-back in Leeds’ final games of 21/22

Virgil van Dijk – 6 (60, replaced by Gomez)

Comfortable for van Dijk, though at times, perhaps a lack of split-thinking defensive instinct that he has become renowned for. Should have dealt with pinball in the Liverpool box in the first 45 better. But nothing to worry about.

Andy Robertson – 7 (45, replaced by Tsimikas)

Excellent in the opposing half when going forward. Looked on it and sharp. Some lovely, crisp passing. Might have done better when let loose by Naby Keita, taking an extra touch and eventually his low cross was blocked.

Fabinho – 6 (60, replaced by Jones)

Nice and tidy from Fabinho. Did what he normally did, breaking up play and making short passes to those with more attacking impact. Perhaps slightly lose in possession at times but if anything is lacking, it is only match sharpness.

Thiago – 7 (60, replaced by Bajcetic)

Classy as ever. Some polished passing out wide and in the final third for his teammates. Rarely got out of second gear for the Reds, as Jurgen Klopp starts to expect his players to get themselves ready for the new season.

Naby Keita – 4 (45, replaced by Henderson)

Erratic at times. Keita’s decision making has always been a weakness of the ex-Leipzig man’s game. After a short corner, he was weak and allowed a Leipzig break. Nice pass into Robertson midway through first half. Hooked at HT.

Mo Salah – 8 (60, replaced by Elliott)

Does what he does. Probably should have had two. Lovely finish from the first which initially came from his work rate, latching on to a Roberti Firmino lay-off to neatly tuck past Peter Gulacsi. Near-post save denied him a second.

Roberto Firmino – 7 (45, replaced by Nunez)

Perhaps not involved as he would like, but Firmino showed some delightful touches during the game when on the ball. His assist should not go unnoticed, a lovely flick with perfect weight – meaning Salah did not have to take a touch.

Luis Diaz – 9 (60, replaced by Carvalho)

One word sums up his performance – energy. The Colombian was clearly looking to impress. His work rate and starting the press in the final third was excellent. Example of such, was winning the penalty, which Nunez scored.

Other notable performances:

Darwin Nunez – 10 (45)

First touch after coming on at half-time, scoring a penalty – just. Second came moments later, superb Liverpool pressing set Nunez away and it is a gorgeous finish. Third a striker’s instinct-type goal. Fourth late on.

A mistake from the goalkeeper, but Nunez sensational. Perfect striker’s performance.

Konstantinos Tsimikas – 7 (45)

Lovely link-up play with Fabio Carvalho down the left flank, including a gorgeous cross after reaching the byline for Elliott – who nodded just wide. Aggressive in defence too, brilliant back-up for Robertson.

Harvey Elliott – 7 (30)

Got into some lovely positions playing from the right flank after replacing Mo Salah. So unlucky not to score a header from a Tsimikas cross, and then laid on an assist for Darwin Nunez’s hat-trick goal.
