Former Arsenal player Chuba Akpom has expressed his delight for Djed Spence on Instagram after he secured a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur.

After what seemed like an age, on Tuesday, Tottenham finally announced that Spence had joined them from Middlesbrough in a deal worth up to £20 million, as reported by BBC Sport.

It’s deal number six for Antonio Conte this summer and further proof that the man in Tottenham’s dugout is being backed ahead of the new Premier League season.

Nonetheless, when Spence shared on IG that he is ‘very happy’ to join Spurs, he was greeted with a number of messages in the comments section.

Akpom, who played with Spence at Boro, told him ‘Let’s go my guy’, whilst former Everton winger, Yannick Bolasie sent his congratulations to the 21-year-old.

Nottingham Forest star, Tyrese Fornah, told him to ‘go and smash it’, as Boro’s Samuel Folarin added ‘big stuff’.

DOES SPENCE START FOR TOTTENHAM?

In the long run, it will be interesting to see what type of role Conte has in mind for Spence and whether he is a regular starter.

The Englishman has missed Tottenham’s pre-season tour of South Korea, where the players were well and truly put through their paces.

Bearing that in mind, it probably hands Emerson Royal the key to start the first Premier League of the season for Spurs because of Spence missing a significant part of pre-season.

Either way, it has been some rise from the all-action wing-back, who only last summer was being told by Neil Warnock at Boro that he is no longer wanted, hence his now memorable loan spell at the City Ground.
