The entire Kenly Police Department has resigned, with some citing a ‘hostile’ working environment as the reason behind their resignation, Police1 has reported.

Police Chief Josh Gibson, the town clerk, and the town’s utility clerk are among those who handed in their resignations, CBS 17 first reported.

Entire Kenly Police Department resigns

On Wednesday, full-time officers with the Kenly Police Department suddenly resigned and handed in their two-week notice letters.

“I have put in my 2 weeks notice along with the whole police dept. Sharon Evans and Christy Thomas with the town of Kenly after 21 years of service,” Police Chief Josh Gibson wrote in a Facebook post.

“The new manager has created an environment I do not feel we can perform our duties and services to the community. I do not know what is next for me. I am letting the Lord lead the way. I have loved this community. It has become family and one of my greatest honors to serve. God bless you all in Kenly.”

Kenly town’s manager Justine Jones runs a town of around 2,400 people.

Statements from those who resigned

WRAL obtained the resignation letters, with a number of employees citing a ‘hostile work environment’ and ‘stress’ as reasons behind their sudden departures.

“I have enjoyed my time working at Kenly Police Department,” one letter read. “However, due to the hostile work environment now present in the Town of Kenly, I believe it is time to move on.”

Another letter read: “I have enjoyed my time working at the Kenly Police Department and fully intended to remain employed with the town. But unfortunately, decisions are being made which make me question what the future will hold for all town employees.”

Several other officers cited similar reasons for their resignations.

Has Jones responded?

The News & Observer reported that Justine Jones could not comment on the resignations at this time.

As reported by The Independent, Jones was appointed as town manager back in May and said of her appointment: “I am honored that the Council has entrusted me with the responsibility of being Kenly’s next manager.

“Kenly’s diversity and dynamic potential offers intriguing challenges and a promising future of growth and prosperity that I am excited to become a part of.”

Ladunblog has reached out to Justine Jones for comment.
