Last week, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez tied the knot in a quiet ceremony, just three months after they announced their engagement back in April.

This is actually the pair’s second engagement, as Ben first proposed to the Hustlers star in November 2002. Two years later, in January 2004, they confirmed their split.

20 years since their first engagement, Ben and-J Lo are now officially husband and wife. While fans have been sharing their excitement for the couple online, Katherine Ryan has stirred up the pot by sharing a tweet about J-Lo’s new surname.

J-Lo and Ben Affleck tie the knot

On July 16, J-Lo and Ben tied the knot at A Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada. J-Lo shared the news with fans in her newsletter On The J-Lo, where she wrote: “So with the best witnesses you could ever imagine, a dress from an old movie and a jacket from Ben’s closet, we read our own vows in the little chapel and gave one another the rings we’ll wear for the rest of our lives.”

The dress in question was a sleeveless A-line gown by Alexander McQueen which was originally worn by the actress and singer on the poster for Jersey Girl. She also chose another dress for the occasion – an off-the-shoulder Zuhair Murad gown.

Their minister, Ryan Wolfe, said that you can “absolutely” see the love Ben and J-Lo had for one another.

He told People: “They definitely truly care and love each other. I’ve done probably 10,000 weddings now, and by this point in my life I get a feel of couples — I can really tell it was real.”

Katherine Ryan confused about J-Lo’s name decision

Changing your name makes very little sense to me, but makes ZERO SENSE AT ALL when your name is Jennifer Lopez and you are J-Lo, Jenny from the Block, and you rode the 6 day and night to grow that name but ok, Jen Affleck…— Katherine Ryan (@Kathbum) July 20, 2022

Comedian Katherine Ryan shared a tweet following the news that J-Lo had chosen to take the surname Affleck. She wrote online: “Changing your name makes very little sense to me, but makes ZERO SENSE AT ALL when your name is Jennifer Lopez and you are J-Lo, Jenny from the Block, and you rode the 6 day and night to grow that name but ok, Jen Affleck…”

The tweet references Jenny from the Block, J-Lo’s 2002 hit song about her roots. The song states over and over the lyrics “I’m still Jenny from the block,” and tells the message that no matter what fame or fortune came to J-Lo, she would always remember where she came from.

Ryan’s tweet was met with backlash from some women who called her out for criticizing J-Lo’s decision.

Debate over J-Lo’s surname sparked by tweet

One person responded: “Bad form!! Some woman [sic] want to change their name when they marry… being made to feel bad because they’ve made that choice makes no sense! Support your fellow female and her right to make independent choices.”

Others also jumped to J-Lo’s defense, with one tweeting: “She never said she’s changing her name professionally like..? JLo is her brand and she’ll always be JLo. She simply changed her legal / personal name which most ppl do when they get married. It’s her prerogative either way and nothing to be pressed about.”

Many pointed out that although the star has changed her name legally, she is still going by J-Lo on social media and professionally as she always has done.
