Speaking on the NUFC Matters YouTube channel, CBS journalist Ben Jacobs has been discussing Newcastle United and their reported interest in Callum Hudson-Odoi.
The Magpies were linked with a move for the Chelsea winger earlier in the window, and according to Jacobs, United’s interest in the England international is genuine.
However, Chelsea aren’t open to selling the 21-year-old just yet.
Indeed, with Hudson-Odoi only just returning from injury, Chelsea are keen to assess the winger before making a decision on his future.
What’s been said?
Jacobs spoke about Hudson-Odoi’s situation.
“Callum Hudson-Odoi would be a great signing for someone like Newcastle United. At the moment Chelsea are assessing his future and Newcastle haven’t made any formal move at all. The interest is real there on Newcastle’s part though,” Jacobs said.
“The thing with Hudson-Odoi is that he’s only just back to full fitness so it will take a lot to persuade Chelsea to sell him to anybody because they’ve not had an opportunity to assess him. Let’s not forget he hasn’t featured in the Premier League after some pretty impressive displays, he got injured and now he’s on that rehabilitation path.
“He may well be on Newcastle’s list, but Chelsea see him as part of their plans when fully fit.
“My sense at the Chelsea end is that it’s going to take something to pry him away at this stage and that Chelsea will have him get back to full fitness before making any final decisions on his future.”

Keep an eye out
It’s understandable why Thomas Tuchel wants to have another look at Hudson-Odoi before making a decision on his future. After all, he’s shown glimpses of massive potential at Stamford Bridge.
However, with the amount of talent in west London at the moment, Hudson-Odoi may soon find himself surplus to requirements if he doesn’t prove himself in the opening weeks of the season, and Newcastle could have their chance to swoop.
The Magpies are clearly in the market for a new winger – they’ve been linked to both Jack Harrison and Harvey Barnes as of late, but Hudson-Odoi could be another exciting option.
Keep an eye on this situation, especially if Hudson-Odoi fails to make his mark at Chelsea in the opening weeks of this season.
