Jamie O’Hara has claimed that Leeds United transfer target, Nicolas Pepe, has been a ‘shocking signing’ for Arsenal, as he told talkSPORT.

The 27-year-old is a fringe player at Arsenal now and O’Hara thinks those in the Emirates boardroom need to ‘sell’ the winger this summer.

Leeds United and Newcastle are two clubs that are looking at the player this summer – Arsenal paid a club-record £72 million for his talents back in 2019 (Sky Sports).

It’s fair to say that the north London side would want a fair chunk of that money back, but in truth, that’s not going to happen given how he can’t even earn starts under Mikel Arteta anymore.

Nonetheless, when O’Hara was asked to share his thoughts on whether the Gunners should either ‘keep or sell’ Pepe, he issued a pretty blunt response on the Leeds target.

“I would say sell,” said O’Hara. “Get rid. It was kind of a shocking signing really. £75 million, what paid over five years?

“What is that? It’s ridiculous. If they can get money back for him, then get rid of him because I don’t think he is good enough to play in this Arteta team.”

WHAT NEXT FOR PEPE?

Whilst Pepe’s future in Arsenal colours looks bleak, it seems as though he isn’t giving up anytime soon.

The new Premier League season is around the corner, with the Gunners set to kick off their campaign at Crystal Palace on Friday night.

Ahead of that, Pepe has made it clear that he has ‘changed a lot of things’ and he is ‘determined’ to make things work with the Champions League-chasing side, as he posted on his Instagram.

With two years left on his contract, what will Arsenal do? Provide him with another chance or cut their noses off, sell him and know they will create a huge loss on him?

In truth, with the club returning to Europe, it does increase Pepe’s chances of featuring somewhat, but as things stand, his long-term future is probably all, but over.
