Stuart Pearce has shared that he has ‘seen bits’ of West Ham United transfer target, Gianluca Scamacca, but warned you can’t guarantee he will hit the ground running if he joins, as he told talkSPORT.

Given that Pearce was on West Ham’s backroom staff last season, then he is probably making reference to having watched clips of him as the club were scouting him.

David Moyes is known to be pretty thorough when looking to buy players, the Scotsman once claimed he watched Joleon Lescott ’24 times’ before bringing him to Everton from Wolves in 2006.

Nonetheless, with the Hammers keen to bolster their attack this summer – Jesse Lingard has opted to join Nottingham Forest – Sassuolo forward, Scamacca, is someone very much on their transfer radar.

Pearce was asked about the player whilst in the talkSPORT’s studio for Drive and he shared these thoughts on West Ham’s pursuit for a forward.

“They (West Ham) are looking for additions up front,” said Pearce. “I have seen bits of Scamacca. The biggest hardship you have got is when you bring players from foreign countries, whether they are going to hit it off or not.

“To turn around and say ‘yes, he’s going to be a definite, no doubt about it, he’s going to hit the ground running’. It’s impossible.

“The best you have probably seen of that (at hitting the ground running) is Diaz at Liverpool. Probably Fernandes at Manchester United as well. They were magnificent when they come in.”

WEST HAM NEED DEPTH IN THE FINAL THIRD

A lot of bids, talk and rumours, but no action as of yet from West Ham, as they search for goals and much-needed depth in the final third.

Even before Andriy Yarmolenko’s exit, Moyes needed help up front and they will struggle without it, as the new season is around the corner.

Michail Antonio has been a fantastic player for West Ham, but he can’t do it all on his own, especially given that the club play in Europe.

And with the Lingard ‘will he or won’t he join?’ saga now over, West Ham can focus on bringing in that out-and-out striker, or perhaps two?

Whilst Scamacca’s name has been thrown about to move to the London Stadium, so has Chelsea striker, Armando Broja, who was on-loan at Southampton last season.
