Jesse Marsch is ‘totally dissatisfied’ as Luis Sinisterra sustained a hamstring injury in Leeds United’s pre-season friendly with Crystal Palace, via quotes by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The £21m summer signing from Feyenoord suffered the blow just 11 minutes into the tie, forcing him off on Friday morning. Marsch had awarded Sinisterra his first start as a Leeds player for the Eagles encounter after cameos in games with Brisbane Roar and Aston Villa.

Sinisterra appeared to sustain the issue without any contact from a Crystal Palace player in Leeds’ final match in Australia. Marsch now hopes the issue does not prove to be a severe problem, with the Whites hosting Cagliari on July 31 before their Premier League opener.

“Luis Sinisterra had a little hamstring injury, and we’re hopeful that it’s not too much and too long, too severe,” Marsch said.

“So, anytime we have a hamstring injury I’m totally dissatisfied because I think that’s reflective of everything that we do with them physically. So, we’ll evaluate that and we hope that it’s not so bad.”

Marsch facing anxious wait for Sinisterra injury news before Leeds host Wolves

Leeds start the new Premier League campaign at home to Wolves on August 6, and will be desperate for Sinisterra to start. Marsch has signed the forward as United’s replacement for Raphinha, who has joined La Liga giants Barcelona for £49m up to £55m with add-ons.

Raphinha was the talisman at Elland Road last term with 11 goals and three assists over 35 top-flight appearances. No other Whites player scored double figures through the 2021/22 campaign, with Jack Harrison (8) ranking in second ahead of Rodrigo (6) and Dan James (4).

Sinisterra boasted a strong record in the Eredivisie with Feyenoord last term, having hit 12 goals and created seven. He also offered 11 goals and seven assists during cup ties, with each of his non-domestic goal involvements recorded in Europa Conference League games.

Marsch will now face an anxious wait for positive news on Sinisterra’s injury in the hope he can start when Leeds host Wolves. The American will be loath to get the season off on the wrong foot without one of his likely vital figures featuring in a major capacity next month.
