Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero has questioned the club’s decision to sell Raheem Sterling to Chelsea, with the Premier League champions offloading the winger last month for a reported £50m.

Speaking on his official Twitch channel, the former Argentina international revealed his bemusement over City selling Sterling to a rival club in Chelsea, with the England star one of three first-team players the Manchester giants have sold this summer.

As well as Sterling, City have also offloaded Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal, yet it is the sale of the former Liverpool winger that has puzzled Aguero the most, with the striker saying: “I don’t understand the sale of Sterling. There are times that Manchester City make these strange decisions.”

The 27-year-old winger has played a huge role in City’s recent history with the attacker winning four Premier League titles with the English side as well as developing under Pep Guardiola into of Europe’s most elite forwards, with Sterling establishing himself as the perfect versatile option in the frontline.

However, with Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland joining the club this summer, it made sense for Sterling to leave, especially with Chelsea showing strong interest in the attacker right from the get-go, with the Blues eventually signing the attacker last month in a deal worth £50m.

Indeed, it makes sense why Aguero would question City’s decision to sell Sterling, especially to a rival club in Chelsea, but with the signings the club have made this summer, offloading the winger makes plenty of sense ahead of what is to be a new generation for the Manchester side.

With Sterling one of Aguero’s best-ever teammates, it makes sense why the Argentine is defending the England winger and questioning City’s decision to sell Sterling, but with Alvarez already impressing for the club and Haaland a striker who could break the English game, the Cityzen legend could soon be made to regret his comments.

After all, change can sometimes be good for big clubs, and for City, selling Sterling to accommodate the arrival of two outstanding youngsters could go on to be an incredible decision which brings another successful era to the blue side of Manchester for many years to come.
