Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed that he would ‘sell’ Anwar El Ghazi this summer because he ‘doesn’t suit’ Aston Villa’s system, as he told the talkSPORT Edge.

The 27-year-old wasn’t part of Aston Villa’s pre-season tour of Australia because his partner is due to give birth to their first child – he boosted his fitness by playing friendlies alongside the U23s in England.

But whilst El Ghazi didn’t go down under for family reasons, is his time in B6 up anyway? The signs suggest so.

In January, Steven Gerrard was happy to loan El Ghazi to Everton during the January transfer window, in one of the worst calls of his career, he only played 11 minutes for the relegation-threatened side.

The technically-gifted attacker has one-year left on his current deal and a call has to be made this summer about his future, as Agbonlahor thinks there is only one outcome.

“I do like El Ghazi,” said Agbonlahor. “But I would sell. I feel where Aston Villa are trying to get to at the moment, the formation Steven Gerrard likes to play, it doesn’t really suit El Ghazi.

“He doesn’t really play wingers. He plays inside eight’s, so I would say sell.”

THE TIME IS UP FOR VILLA’S PLAY-OFF HERO

That opening goal against Derby in the play-off final is something Villa fans will remember for a very long time given the importance of it all.

Under Dean Smith, El Ghazi was a favourite and a regular, but with new coaching staff come new ideas and old faces heading for the exit door.

That’s probably the best call for the Holland international because Gerrard sent out a clear signal in the winter when he let him leave for Goodison Park.

In the Premier League, El Ghazi just hasn’t the consistency, composure, bite or the first touch to compete at this level.

If he does head for the exit door this summer, then it will be interesting to see where he will end up because he has showcased his talent in Holland, France and England already.
