Tom Davies has shared that he ‘hasn’t thought about it too much’ regarding his future at Everton, as he told ¡Qué Golazo!

The 24-year-old has less than 12 months to run on his current deal and he added that he is ‘more excited’ about just getting out there and playing again.

Last season, the boyhood Everton fan could only muster five Premier League games, whilst for three campaigns prior to that, he hasn’t played above 30 league matches in a single season.

That young kid that ran through Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City hasn’t really lived up to expectations, but injuries certainly haven’t helped matters.

Nonetheless, when Davies was asked about his future on Merseyside, he shared that he is just looking forward to playing against Chelsea.

“I haven’t thought about it too much,” said Davies. “I am more excited about going back out there and starting playing again.

“I am just focusing on getting fit and playing as many games as I can, then ultimately looking forward to that Chelsea game on the first game of the season.”

SHOULD EVERTON HAND DAVIES A NEW CONTRACT?

On one hand, the club aren’t exactly in a position where they can let Davies go next summer, and then bring in a big-money transfer.

Everton’s financial mess means that they are probably better off handing the midfielder a new deal, even if they aren’t keen to do so in the first place.

And whilst fans won’t want to hear it, they aren’t showing positive signs in pre-season, nor in the transfer market, that they will move forward from last season’s disaster.

Richarlison, one of their best players in recent years, is out of the door, but with Chelsea visiting in a number of weeks, they still haven’t brought anyone in other than free-transfer, James Tarkowski.

There will be a fair few faces tipping Everton to go down next term, so this is going to be a big season, not just for Davies, but the club as a whole.
