Gabby Agbonlahor has stated that West Ham United transfer target, Ollie Watkins, is ‘perfect’ for Aston Villa, as he would ‘definitely keep’ him at the club.

The striker turned pundit added that Watkins does a ‘great job’ for Villa and he is someone who can ‘score many goals’.

That’s probably why West Ham had the England international on their transfer radar this summer – but it seems as though the Hammers are looking elsewhere for that striker.

Chelsea striker, Armando Broja and Sassuolo hitman, Gianluca Scamacca are the players the club are seemingly pushing for ahead of the new Premier League season.

Nonetheless, when Agbonlahor was asked whether he would sell or keep Watkins this summer, this is what he told talkSPORT.

“Definitely keep,” said Agbonlahor. “He’s perfect for Aston Villa. They have always had quick strikers who like running in behind, not mentioning any names.

BIG SEASON AHEAD FOR WATKINS

In his first season in England’s top-flight, Watkins hit 14 Premier League goals for Villa and supplied five assists during an impressive opening campaign.

The 26-year-old’s form dipped last term, with only 11 league goals to his name, although, given his indifferent performances, the club and his struggles, he’s done well to hit those numbers.

So, if he’s hitting 11 during a season which is seen as a negative, then he can really hit healthy numbers if he takes his game to another level.

The England international has to do that ahead of the new Premier League season because there are question marks over Steven Gerrard’s front line.

Does Gerrard dip the market for another striker? Or can the likes of Watkins get the goals needed? If so, then, not only will Watkins continue to thrive in B6, but also probably increase his chances of securing a place at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
