According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle have made contact with Rennes over a deal for Kamaldeen Sulemana, after giving up on Jack Harrison.

What’s the story?

Well, Eddie Howe was hoping to sign the Leeds No.22 this summer, although Jesse Marsch is determined to keep him.

It seems as if the American’s stubbornness has had the desired effect, as Newcastle are now exploring alternatives to Harrison after being put off by his £35m price tag.

The Daily Mail believe Sulemana – often referred to by his first name, Kamaldeen – has now emerged as a target for the Magpies, with Newcastle lodging an enquiry over his availability.

Rennes paid £17m to sign the 20-year-old from Nordsjaelland in 2021, before he enjoyed a brilliant debut campaign in France.

Sulemana scored five goals in 28 appearances for Rennes, while also providing three assists as he got a taste of European football in the UEFA Conference League.

Now, the Ligue 1 side value their No.10 at £30m as a result of his progress in France, according to the Daily Mail.

Newcastle must sign Kamaldeen Sulemana

Forget Harrison – Newcastle should’ve been targeting Sulemana long before they pursued the Leeds forward.

The Ghana international has been described as an “extraordinary” talent by Nordsjaelland manager Flemming Pedersen, who even compared him to Neymar.

Speaking about Sulemana and interest from overseas, the 59-year-old said: “(Manchester) United are in the race, and with the personality and mentality he has, I will never say it will be too big a leap, for he is extraordinary.

“We are talking about a player with potential on a par with Neymar, and maybe even more than that, because he’s even faster.”

The Ghanaian even attracted interest from Liverpool in 2021, which speaks volumes about his talent.

If Newcastle can lure Sulemana to Tyneside, it would be a hugely exciting signing for the Toon Army.
