‘Good move for Arsenal’: Campbell reacts to Leeds United transfer rumour

Kevin Campbell has claimed that if Leeds United sign Nicolas Pepe, then it would be a ‘good move’ for Arsenal, as he told the Highbury Squad.

It has been a tough time for the winger since his club-record transfer to Arsenal in 2019, but Campbell thinks he ‘really will go’ this summer.

Only five Premier League starts for Pepe in north London last season and the last of those came in October, which was a pretty clear sign from Mikel Arteta as to what he thinks of the player.

Bukayo Saka has outperformed the 27-year-old out on the right flank, the Englishman scored 11 Premier League goals last season, and Pepe has 18 from his 80 games in England’s top-flight.

Either way, Campbell thinks Pepe’s time is up at the Emirates, as he was also told that Leeds are keen to sign the player this summer.

“I think Pepe’s going to go,” said Campbell. “I really think he will go.

On Leeds United links: “Ooof, it would be a good move for Arsenal,” laughed the former Arsenal striker.

Arsenal are keen to offload the Ivory Coast international, but with two-years left on his contract and the fact that he is a £72 million signing, they will want some of their money back.

But in truth, there aren’t going to be many teams lining up to secure his signature and Leeds should stay well clear of the player.

The speed and efficient decision-making of Premier League football has proved to be too much for Pepe and he’s not going to exactly change at Elland Road.

Raphinha wasn’t just a dazzling winger, who put the opposition player on his backside at any moment, but a goal threat of high quality, including 11 Premier League goals last season.

As mentioned above, Pepe only has 18 league goals to his name since he joined the club, so that in itself proves how much he has struggled in the final third.
