Premier League newcomers Fulham have been handed a boost in their race to sign Barcelona goalkeeper Norberto Neto with Tuttomercatoweb reporting that Napoli have failed to meet his wage demands.

From Thomas Strakosha to Bernd Leno, Sergio Rico to Alphonse Areola, Fulham’s pursuit of a new number one has rumbled on throughout the summer.

Now however, there appears to be a glint of light at the end of a long and winding tunnel.

Spanish publication Sport claimed on Friday that Fulham had entered talks with Barcelona’s £30 million misfit Norberto ‘Neto’ Murara.

And while the Cottagers are yet to reach an agreement with the former Juventus, Valencia and Fiorentina glovesman – the report did say that they were hoping to tie up a deal before the week was out – there’s still a pretty reasonable chance that Neto will be standing between the sticks when Liverpool arrive in West London on August 6th.

Especially after talks between Neto and Napoli hit the buffers.

According to TMW, Napoli have ‘slowed down’ their chase for the Brazil international. The Serie A giants offered Neto around £32,000-a-week. The experienced shot-stopper wants closer to £40,000-a-week, however.

A not insurmountable difference, of course, but Napoli appear reluctant at this stage to meet Neto’s demands. Fulham might not be quite so parsimonious, especially given the absence of a transfer fee.

You might have heard that Barcelona’s finances are in a bit of a muddle. Hence why the La Liga giants are reportedly willing to tear up the final 12 months of Neto’s contract, allowing the seldom-seen number two to leave the Camp Nou for absolutely nothing.

Neto was left out of Barcelona’s pre-season trip to the United States. So too were the similarly out-of-favour Samuel Umtiti, Riqui Puig, Oscar Mingueza and Martin Braithwaite.

Fulham have officially confirmed just two new arrivals so far this summer – Andreas Pereira and Joao Palhinha – even if deals for Manor Solomon and Kevin Mbabu appear to be all-but done.
