Juventus are reportedly working on handing Memphis Depay a two-year contract, with Everton losing some serious ground in the race to sign the FC Barcelona attacker.

According to Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, the Italian giants are eager to bring the Netherlands international to Turin this summer, though Barcelona must first look to terminate Depay’s contract if Juventus are to sign the former Manchester United attacker in the coming weeks.

As per Romano, Tottenham are no longer interested in the 28-year-old forward, with Spurs being linked with Depay for the majority of the summer as Everton have recently emerged as the Premier League side with the best chance of signing the Barcelona star.

Frank Lampard is keen to sign a replacement for Richarlison after the Brazilian was signed by Tottenham earlier in the window, though Everton’s hunt for a new superstar attacker has so far yielded no luck, with the Toffees’ yet to sign a single attacker this summer.

Indeed, Depay would have been perfect for what the Merseyside club are looking for this summer, but with Juventus in talks over a two-year contract for the Dutch superstar, the Italian side are inching ever closer to signing the Barcelona attacker this summer.

Whilst Depay is essentially being dumped by Barcelona despite his reported €400m (£340m) release clause, there’s no denying that the forward will be an excellent addition for Juventus’ forward line for next season, with Everton once again heading back to the drawing board over an attacking target to bring in this summer.

Replacing Richarlison should have been one of Everton’s main goals this summer, but in typical Toffee fashion, Lampard and his team have left it until the final weeks of the window to find a new starting man up-front to partner Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and Juventus closing in on Depay only adds to the urgency for the Merseyside club.

Whilst the signings of Conor Coady, Amadou Onana and Dwight McNeil are needed, an attacker could be the difference between a comfortable season or another year of a relegation scrap, something no Everton fans wants to be a part of again after the drama of the last campaign.
