Domenico Tedesco admits his RB Leipzig side couldn’t cope with a Darwin Nunez inspired Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp’s side stormed to a 5-0 pre-season win at the Red Bull Arena, speaking to RB Live.

If this is what the future looks like for Liverpool, then God help the rest of the Premier League.

After Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah rolled back the years, the former setting up the latter, it was time for the next generation to show what they’re made of.

And, thanks to some sterling work from teenagers Stefan Bajcetic, Harvey Elliott and the silky-smooth Fabio Carvalho, new £64 million forward Darwin Nunez served up a hearty slice of humble pie with a side order of red-faced silence to those who had dared to write him off after a couple of training ground mishits.

Four goals. Four very different goals; Nunez’s Liverpool career up and running.

“You don’t need to talk about Liverpool’s strength. We knew that in advance. Basically, we conceded four own goals. That’s annoying,” sighs Tedesco, bemoaning Leipzig’s inability to deal with the opposition’s work-rate and intensity.

“You saw how Liverpool play: extremely experienced. They play under pressure when you press them high, two or three touches. That has something to do with maturity and with cleverness.

“They win the second balls and then football is played in the final third. We, on the other hand, got into trouble far too often. Too many mistakes. We can learn from the 0-5. Maybe it’s an eye-opener.

“Nevertheless, I would have liked to have done without it.”

Leipzig captain Willi Orban struck a similar tone, bemoaning the ruthlessness of a Liverpool side who took full advantage of their hosts’ generosity.

“The result was very clear. We shouldn’t have lost by so much,” Orban says. “We were too naive in parts of the game (and) made a lot of very, very simple mistakes that are punished at the level.

“The defeat doesn’t feel nice – especially at home – but I hope we learn from it.”
