The Gray Man on Netflix

The Gray Man premiered on Netflix on Friday, July 22, 2022.

Based on the 2009 novel of the same name by Mark Greaney, the film tells the story of CIA operative Court Gentry (Gosling).

Gentry was once a highly-skilled, agency-sanctioned killer who was plucked from a federal penitentiary by his handler, Donald Fitzroy (Billy Bob Thornton).

However, despite being one of the world’s best assassins, the tables turn on Gentry when he becomes the target of Lloyd Hansen (Evans), who hunts him across the globe and will stop at nothing to kill him.

Decoding the necklace in the movie

Gosling’s Six discovers that he was sent to kill another member of the Sierra program, Four. When Four dies, he gives Six a necklace containing important information about CIA Group Chief Denny Carmichael.

Carmichael panicks when he finds out that the necklace is missing and sends Hansen after Six to retrieve the data.

It turns out that Four was trying to sell the drive to another bidder which is why Six was hired in the first place. The drive includes a picture of Carmichael and several locked files.

But Six has to first rescue his handler Donald Fitzroy’s niece Claire who has been taken as hostage. Six uses the help of Dani Miranda (Ana de Armas) to rescue Claire.

Dani tells Six to leak the information to the media but Six refuses to do so until Claire and Fitzroy are safe.

After a series of events, the final scene shows Six and Claire fleeing to a mysterious destination. The scene doesn’t reveal they’ve gone and since there are several book series, there is hope for a potential sequel at some point in the future.

Russo Brothers speak about sequel

Speaking to Variety, The Russo Brothers said that they would love to work on a sequel (and even more) but it all depends on audiences across the globe.

They said: “It’s based on a book series, so there is the opportunity to expand this into future movies. We love to keep going with the world because we love all the characters.

“But we need the audience to tell us whether they want to see more of the story or not. If we do continue forward with the story, I can guarantee you that Dhanush’s character will be part of that world moving forward.”
