Celtic are interested in Japhet Tanganga and could rival AC Milan in the race for the Tottenham Hotspur defender’s signature.

It has become clear that Tanganga needs to leave Tottenham this summer in order to play first-team football.

The 23-year-old started just 10 Premier League games last season and hasn’t played a competitive games since January.

A versatile defender who initially impressed under Jose Mourinho, Tanganga has been set back by injuries and competition for places.

Breaking into the Tottenham side isn’t going to happen this season for Tanganga, so a move away now looks likely.

Celtic are interested in Japhet Tanganga

Fabio Paratici has been in Italy this week with Tanganga’s potential move to AC Milan high up on his list of priorities.

It now seems that Milan face a battle for Tanganga though, with Celtic now mentioned as a possible suitor.

Carlo Pellegatti – who has commentated on Milan games since way back in 1983 and is something of a San Siro legend – has thrown Celtic’s name Into the race.

Pellegatti has reported on Milan News that Tanganga seems close to joining Milan but the Serie A champions have to be wary of interest from Celtic, Bournemouth and Monaco.

As one of the top Milan sources, Pellegatti’s claims will certainly attract interest.

Tanganga was a target for Celtic back in January 2021 but Jose Mourinho blocked the defender from making a deadline day switch to Parkhead.

That was before Ange Postecoglou’s appointment as manager but maybe Celtic recruitment staff remain keen on Tanganga.

It would be a surprise to see Celtic make a move for Tanganga now though, especially having added Moritz Jenz this week.

Tanganga has great versatility across the back four but Celtic seem pretty well-stocked now, with Jenz joining Cameron Carter-Vickers, Carl Starfelt and Stephen Welsh in the centre back ranks.

Josip Juranovic and Anthony Ralston are fighting it out on the right whilst new signing Alexandro Bernabei will battle with Greg Taylor at left back.

Adding another defender just doesn’t seem to be a priority for Celtic right now, with Tanganga surely more likely to be joining Milan this summer.
