Napoli have been urged to let West Ham United target Piotr Zielinski leave in order to finance a deal for Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League misfit Giovani Lo Celso, via Vikonos TV.

It is almost a month since the news emerged that Harry Winks, Tanguy Ndombele, Sergio Reguilon and Lo Celso would all be left at home as Spurs embarked upon their pre-season tour of Asia, with none of the quartet part of Antonio Conte’s plans going into the new campaign.

Three weeks later, Winks, Ndombele, Reguilon and Lo Celso are all still very much Spurs players.

It turns out that finding clubs willing to splash out on underperforming players – while taking ownership of their eye-watering wages – is easier said than done, particularly in the post-COVID era.

Huh. Who’d have thunk it?

Tottenham still hope to sell Giovani Lo Celso

Tottenham are yet to receive an offer deemed acceptable for the £21 million-rated Lo Celso. Villarreal are offering just £13 million. Per Il Mattino, Napoli only want the Argentine international on loan, and will ask Spurs to contribute a percentage of his £70,000-a-week wages during the playmaker’s time at the Estadio Diego Armando Maradona.

But according to Pietro Lo Monaco, the former Palermo, Genoa and Udinese director, Napoli shouild move heaven and earth to bring Lo Celso in. Even if that means letting Zielinski leave first.

“Zielinski? If his exit brings me money plus Lo Celso, perhaps on loan with an option to buy, it is a sacrifice that I would make all my life,” Lo Monaco muses, via Calcio Napoli 1926.

“Lo Celso would make Napoli’s offensive department respectable. Furthermore, with an extra attacking midfielder, Napoli would be really complete.”

Zielinski, a talented, technically-gifted schemer in the Lo Celso mould, has attracted the interest of West Ham United. David Moyes’ side have offered £33 million for the Poland international.

There are conflicting reports though about whether or not Zielinski would consider joining Gianluca Scamacca at the London Stadium. A four-year contract worth £90,000-a-week may be enough to twist his arm…
