Chris Hemsworth almost never picked up Thor’s hammer as he admitted his audition ‘sucked’ and his brother put himself forward for the role.
It means the Thor we know and love today almost never came to be, and it’s tough to imagine another face beside Natalie Portman.
The Australian native revealed in an interview his little brother Liam almost got the part. It came after Chris messed up his first audition in front of execs.
He told MensXP Liam “got right down to the wire on getting the part,” so it was pretty close.
Reports said James Bond star Daniel Craig was also offered the role but turn it down due to 007 commitments.

The Avenger told Wired he didn’t even get a callback from casting after his first audition.
He admitted: “I think my audition sucked”.
Chris then said brother Liam was “very close” to landing the part and was in the final five actors. But one aspect turned directors into another path, they thought he was too young for the role.
It was Hemsworth’s manager who reminded him that Liam had an older brother – Chris. And that’s how he managed to get his callback.
Also, the Ghostbusters star admitted seeing his brother get a callback and down to the wire spurred him on and his next auditions were of better quality.
The dad said filming other movies between the auditions further helped motivate him and give him more experience.

Although Liam wasn’t the Thor we know today, he did get a part as Gale in the Hunger Games movies.
Not only that, eldest brother of the clan – yes, there are three – played the stage version of the avenger opposite Matt Damon as Loki. In the play edition of Thor: Love and Thunder, Sam Neill portrays Odin and Melissa McCarthy stands as Hela.
The Express reports Tom Hiddleston, (Loki) went up for the role of Thor as well. It’s said he progressed to the screen-testing part of the auditions, after he became “ripped” and let his blonde hair grow long.

Tom said back in 2019: “Basically, at the time, they were looking for sort of less well-established actors so that the audience didn’t have an association.
“They just wanted people to see these new characters, these new actors. And the agreement was, if you’re over 6 foot and you’ve got blond hair, you can come and have a pop at it.”
He added: “So I never auditioned for Loki. I only ever auditioned for Thor, which is nuts.”
He was cut from the Thor decisions, which led to Tom going to a pub in London to get over being axed. But, he was then called about the character Loki. Tom said he “screamed” and had to sit down outside the pub to “think” about his life.
The latest Marvel installment reaped huge rewards in the first weekend at the box office. Thor: Love and Thunder raked in more than $300 million in the first few days.
