Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous sadly won’t get a season 6 as Netflix’s fantastic animated adventure faces a permanent extinction.

Back in September 2020, when Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous made its international debut, there were certainly some reservations about its place in the franchise.

Fast forward to today and Camp Cretaceous has become one of Netflix’s most popular family animated titles, with its recently released fifth instalment arguably being the best season to date.

Unfortunately, our hopes for Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous season 6 have sadly been dashed, but why is our optimism going extinct and is there a chance that we could see another animated spin-off adventure?

Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous season 6 won’t happen

Sadly, Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous won’t be getting a sixth season, with the recently released season 5 being the final conclusion to the hit Netflix series.

As part of the promotional campaign for season 5, it was confirmed that this would be the final adventure for our rag-tag group of Dinosaur experts.

In both the official trailer for the fifth season and the initial announcement via Entertainment Weekly, season 5 was labelled as the “final season” for the Netflix show.

“Every journey comes to an end, even if you’re not ready for it… The final season of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous arrives on Netflix, July 21.” – Season 5 Teaser, via Jurassic World YouTube.

Season 5 episode 12 “The Nublar Six” also featured a rather definitive ending, with our characters each going their separate ways after their adventure came to a close.

In the final moments of Camp Cretaceous, as we hear the iconic theme song for one last time, Darius looks out at the dinosaurs from his window – the dinosaurs that he and his friends finally saved together.

However, there was actually a throw-away comment by Brooklyn that tied into the live-action Jurassic World movie series, so what are the chances of a Camp Cretaceous spin-off series?

The possibility of a spin-off Camp Cretaceous

In the final scenes of season 5 episode 12, when the gang are on a video call with each other, Brooklyn notes how she can’t talk for long because she is following a lead.

“Yeah, it’s just so weird. Darius, have you heard of the Lockwood Estate? It’s a little ways north of you? They’re saying that dinosaurs have somehow…Look, I don’t wanna say any more until I have some real facts. It’s probably just a prank. Just keep your eyes open.” – Brooklyn, Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous S5 ep 12, via Netflix.

If you have watched Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), you will know exactly what the rumour Brooklyn is hinting at is – the dinosaurs were held captive on the estate and that during an auction to sell them off, many escaped into the North American wilderness.

The Netflix animated series has made repeated references and links to the live-action series, which is one of the reasons why Camp Cretaceous felt like such an integral part of the recent franchise reboot. However, this link to the Hollywood movies does suggest that some type of spin-off series to the Camp Cretaceous title could eventually be produced.

If the characters from Camp Cretaceous are canon within the wider Jurassic World universe, there is no reason why another spin-off story, set in between the two most recent live-action films, couldn’t be made.

TROLLS: I Voted poll hilariously shows why the internet can’t be trusted (again)

@LEGO_Group Now that Jurassic World Dominon is out and the final season of Camp Cretaceous is next week, We can look forward to a Lego Jurassic Saga Game of all 6 movies, Battle At Big Rock and Camp Cretaceous right? Please? I’m begging you— David Rainone (@David3399) July 15, 2022

Netflix would certainly entertain the idea of returning to the animated-dinosaur kingdom, following the global success of Camp Cretaceous: with the series currently scoring an impressive 7.2/10 on MetaCritic, 7.5/10 on IMDB and 83% on Rotten Tomatoes.

“The series also does an amazing job with tying into the greater Jurassic Park world with plenty of references, name drops, and scenes that outright happen in the movies. In fact, I believe that season 3 of the show can rank just behind the original Jurassic Park in the entire franchise. To wrap it up: Just watch the show, you will enjoy it.” – User ecroni, via IMDB.

Moreover, the show also won an Annie Award for Outstanding Achievement for Animated Effects and a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Daytime Promotional Announcement, with an additional nomination for Favourite Cartoon at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.

To conclude: Whilst we are likely never going to see Camp Cretaceous return for season 6 on Netflix, there is a distinct possibility that another animated spin-off show could be produced following the success of the recently concluded Jurassic World adventure.
