Gabby Agbonlahor has told talkSPORT that Tottenham Hotspur signing Richarlison will hurt Everton ‘more than people think’ and warns Frank Lampard against not replacing him now.

Richarlison left the Toffees for Spurs in a £50m move, rising up to £60m, earlier this month after four years on Merseyside. He had cost the Blues an initial £35m, rising up to £50m, to leave Watford, just a year after the Brazilian had arrived in the Premier League for £11.5m.

Tottenham have afforded the 25-year-old a five-year contract in north London to improve Antonio Conte’s attacking options. The Italian sought to sign the 36-cap forward following his 10 goal haul, plus five assists, from 30 top-flight appearances with Everton last season.

Richarlison offered double digits for goals in all but one of his four Premier League seasons at Goodison. The Nova Venecia native hit home 13 times during each of his first two terms in royal blue, before regressing to seven goals and a previous-best three assists in 2020/21.

No Everton player bar Richarlison reached double digits last season, as well, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Demarai Gray ranking joint-second with five each. Gray and Abdoulaye Doucoure additionally ranked joint-second behind Richarlison for assists with four apiece.

Everton are yet to replace what Richarlison offered Lampard since Tottenham finalised his signing earlier this month. Free agent centre-back Michael Keane is the only fresh addition the Blues have made to their squad, but Lampard is interested in attacking reinforcements.

Toffees sporting director Kevin Thelwell is pursuing a deal to sign Burnley forward Maxwel Cornet. The Daily Mail note Everton are preparing a second offer for the versatile 25-year-old, who hit nine Premier League goals last season, having seen an initial loan bid rejected.

Agbonlahor would urge Everton boss Lampard – who is a big admire of Cornet – to sign a replacement for Richarlison. He feels it would be dangerous to not fill the Brazilian’s void, as the Tokyo 2020 Olympics gold medallist will be a bigger miss than some people expect.

“I think Richarlison is going to affect them more than people think,” Agbonlahor said. “He kept them up last season with his goals. To lose him and not replace him is a big risk. You shouldn’t be losing 4-0 to Minnesota.

“Yes, the conditions are very hot over there. It’s pre-season, so you can’t go into much details. But after last season, Everton would want a top pre-season under their belts, especially with the season starting in two weeks.”
