Speaking to The Redmen TV, Goal journalist Neil Jones has been discussing Liverpool and their reported interest in Carney Chukwuemeka.

The Aston Villa midfielder has been the subject of so much speculation this summer as he enters the final year of his Villa deal. The teenager has been linked to the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle and even Barcelona.

Interestingly, Liverpool have also been credited with an interest, and while Jones says that the Villa ace is a player the Reds like, he’s been told that a move isn’t imminent at this stage.

However, he says that a deal could come onto the agenda if Chukwuemeka is made available for a decent fee.

What’s been said?

Jones spoke about Chukwuemeka and Liverpool’s interest.

“Possibly, the only way I see it happening is if it was one of them where a deal is there to be done and Liverpool think it’s a very good deal. He’s highly-rated by everyone, it’s not like Liverpool have spotted this unknown talent, he’s potentially top-drawer. The fact that Villa have this stance with him tells you what they think of him, they want him to stay. He and Jacob Ramsey are the jewels in their academy crown at the moment,” Jones said.

“I haven’t heard that they’re planning on making a move for him, but if something came up for £9-£10m and he was going to Fulham or somewhere like that, Liverpool may think that it’s an easy decision to make, but not at this stage.”

Possibility

A move for Chukwuemeka doesn’t seem to be imminent for Liverpool, but as Jones says, if he becomes available for a decent fee, the Reds could swoop.

Luckily for Liverpool, that is a distinct possibility.

The youngster is seemingly refusing to sign a new contract at Villa Park, and while the club are desperate to keep hold of the talented midfielder, they may eventually have to resign to the fact he’s looking to leave.

If Chukwuemeka is indeed set on departing the club, Villa will certainly want to get a fee rather than allowing him to go for free, but, due to his contract situation, they probably won’t be able to command massive money for him.

Liverpool will only go for Chukwuemeka if an opportunity presents itself, and luckily for the Reds, their chance to sign this youngster could be on the horizon.
