Ashley Young has thanked Anthony Martial for giving him his shirt after Aston Villa’s comeback against Manchester United during their 2-2 pre-season friendly draw on Saturday in Perth, as he posted on Instagram.

The Aston Villa fullback posted that he has ‘enjoyed almost every minute’ of the club’s pre-season tour of Australia, in which Steven Gerrard’s side ended unbeaten, just like their Premier League rivals.

During the game, Young also donned the Villa armband against his former club and when Martial posted in the comments section of his IG post ‘My Bro’, Young issued the following response:

“Was good to see you my bro and thanks for your shirt,” said Young. “Good luck for the season bro and it’s about time you occupied that No9 shirt.”

IT’S HAPPENED AGAIN

Last season at Villa Park, the home team came from 2-0 down to record a deserved and late 2-2 draw against Manchester United.

During that game, then-Ralf Rangnick’s side were the better team in the first half, before the Midlands outfit turned up it in the second half and secured the point during a debut to remember for Philippe Coutinho.

Well, history repeated itself in down under because Man United were the dominant team during the first 45 minutes, whilst the second half belonged to Gerrard and his men.

Calum Chambers was the one scoring the equalising goal this around, right at the death, as both teams leave Australia unbeaten, with a lot of questions answered, but more problems needing to be solved.

Erik ten Hag’s task is to get the Old Trafford-based club back into the Champions League, whilst also trying to add a trophy or two to the club’s cabinet again.

If Gerrard can add a domestic trophy to Villa’s, then it will be a big thumbs up from the fans, or securing a top seven finish, which is a tough task, but the aim for those in Claret & Blue.
