Speaking on The Done Deal Show, CBS journalist Ben Jacobs has been discussing one rather important behind the scenes detail at Arsenal.

Indeed, the journalist has been speaking about Bukayo Saka’s future and a potential new contract for the winger.

It’s been reported for quite some time that Saka has caught the eye of both Manchester City and Liverpool with his performances for Arsenal, but, as you may well imagine, the Gunners are very keen to keep hold of their young star.

In fact, Mikel Arteta is so keen to keep hold of Saka that, according to Jacobs, he has gone directly to the Arsenal hierarchy to ask for the youngster to be given a new contract.

What’s been said?

Jacobs spoke about Saka’s situation.

“My understanding is that Saka, at this stage, is not touchable and that Mikel Arteta has made it clear to the Arsenal hierarchy that he wants a new deal tabled and Saka is quite prepared to sign that as well. Arsenal’s position is clear, Saka will sign a new contract, that’s not to say the Man City links aren’t genuine,” Jacobs said.

Better than any signing

Saka signing a new contract is better news for Arsenal than any new player arrival could be.

Make no mistake about it, while Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko are exciting additions, Saka is the Gunners’ jewel in the crown, and securing his future is of utmost importance.

Manchester City and Liverpool are keen, and while there may be no stopping Saka from making a big-money move one day, tying him down to a new deal now protects his future and protects Arsenal from losing a prized asset for a cut-price fee.

Getting Saka to sign a new deal may be the best piece of business Arsenal could possibly do right now.
