Angela Jacobs, a reporter for WFTV Channel 9, has died after losing her battle with metastatic breast cancer this week.

It was confirmed the Eyewitness News reporter passed away on Tuesday, July 19, by her colleagues at WFTV, who called her ‘fiercely loyal’.

After becoming a journalist in 2008, Angela began working for Fox Sports as a contributing reporter to Florida’s Rays and Lightning coverage. While working in Tampa, Florida, Angela earned two Emmy awards.

She also spent a week as a guest co-host on NBC Sports Network in 2013 and, that same year, Angela joined Eyewitness News as a general assignment reporter in February 2013.

Some of her notable work includes her breaking a news story of a woman who took legal action against a local hospital after she said she was molested while a patient in their care, WFTV said.

Then, in January 2015, Angela covered the story of a woman who was being ‘terrorised’ by her ex-boyfriend and, less than 24 hours later, the alleged stalker was arrested. Her story has also prompted local lawmakers to take a new look into Florida’s cyber stalking law.

Angela Jacobs loses battle with cancer

Angela opened up about her battle with breast cancer back in 2020, when she explained she had 56 treatments over five weeks of radiation treatment. She also underwent four surgeries and lost her hair.

After a long battle, Angela beat the disease and spent almost two years in remission, before the cancer returned this year.

This time round, Angela had chemotherapy and tried experimental treatments, WFTV reports.

Her colleagues have called her ‘fiercely loyal’ and several have paid tribute to their friend on social media. Lauren Seabrook said she is ‘angry/sad’ after losing her friend and said Angela fought ‘so hard with such grace and selflessness’.

Lost a friend to cancer and am so angry/sad. I’ve never seen someone fight so hard with such grace and selflessness. I’m going to miss you dearly @AngelaJacobsTV. Thank you for always caring more about us than you’d ever let anyone worry about your battle.https://t.co/gpnksPU9jR— Lauren Seabrook (@LaurenSeabrook_) July 20, 2022

Even the Orange County Sheriff’s Office gave their condolences, saying they’re ‘sorry to hear of the passing’ and said she had ‘all the qualities of the best reporters.

We are so sorry to hear of the passing of Angela Jacobs. She had all the qualities of the best reporters: Tough, but not adversarial. Fair. Empathetic. This community benefitted so much from her work Our deepest condolences to her family, friends and WFTV colleagues. https://t.co/ah0wSnu3yh— Orange County Sheriff’s Office (@OrangeCoSheriff) July 20, 2022
