Speaking on The Done Deal Show, Dean Jones has been discussing James Maddison amid some ongoing links to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Leicester City midfielder is reportedly being eyed up by Spurs, and while a deal isn’t imminent, this is certainly one to keep an eye on.

According to Jones, Maddison could quickly have his head turned by Spurs’ interest, while the journalist states that this may be a deal that Tottenham explore late in the window – stating that it could go to the wire.

What’s been said?

Jones spoke about Maddison’s situation.

“You wonder what James Maddison is thinking and there’s no doubt, he would have his head turned if Tottenham genuinely tabled an offer, it would leave Leicester in a difficult situation where they’d have to decide what would be a good fee right now. £60m is being banded around, it’s a lot of money for Tottenham to invest, but we’ve seen them spend big on Richarlison that people didn’t see coming, and I think that James Maddison would lift that club to another level,” Jones said.

“Let’s see, I was always expecting this move to happen later in the window, because Spurs have the bulk of their deals done. Traditionally they go for late moves and drive a deal in the last week, so maybe this one could go to the wire.”

Icing on the cake

This Maddison move could go down to the wire, and if the Leicester star is indeed a late signing for Spurs, he would be the icing on the cake of what has been a tremendous transfer window.

Spurs have improved in all of their key areas this summer, and the addition of Maddison would give them yet another string to their bow.

Indeed, this signing would not only see a brilliant player added to Spurs’ squad, it would give Antonio Conte the tools needed to utilise his 3-5-2 formation when the 3-4-3 isn’t quite working.

This could be a remarkable late signing for Tottenham.
