Preston kick off the 2022-23 Football League campaign with a trip to north west rivals Wigan Athletic on Saturday (30 July).

With Daniel Iversen returning to Leicester City after his second stint at Deepdale, Freddie Woodman has been signed on a permanent deal from Newcastle United.

The 25-year-old has a wealth of experience playing in the Championship following his two loan spells at Swansea City and after starting last season as Newcastle’s number one, Woodman made one appearance for Bournemouth after joining the Cherries on loan for the remainder of the campaign in January.

With Sepp van den Berg returning to Liverpool following his loan spell, Lowe is tasked with replacing the Netherlands Under-21 international, but with no centre-back reinforcements being made as of yet, the former Plymouth Argyle gaffer could go with Jordan Storey, Patrick Bauer and Andrew Hughes as his three-man defence, if he retains his favoured 3-5-2 formation.

Lowe could unleash two exciting prospects in the wing-back positions if The Invincibles manage to get the loan deals for Dujon Sterling and Alvaro Fernandez over the line.

Chelsea youngster Sterling spent last season out on loan at Blackpool, and the Evening Standard report that Preston and Queens Park Rangers are interested in signing the 22-year-old who has made two first-team appearances for the Blues.

While Manchester United youngster Fernandez was at Deepdale on Saturday to watch Lowe’s side play Leicester City.

The former Real Madrid youngster was pictured speaking to Lowe on the pitch and Preston’s manager will be hoping the club have done enough to convince the attack-minded Spain Under-19 international to join the club.

Ben Whiteman and club captain Allan Browne could be Lowe’s midfield pairing with attacking midfielder Daniel Johnson being given a free role further forward.

The midfield trio scored 16 Championship goals between them last season and Lowe will be hoping that they continue to chip in with priceless goals.

Emil Riis was Preston’s top scorer last season with 20 goals across all competitions and it looks like Lowe will be able to call upon further firepower alongside the Danish striker.

According to the Evening Standard, Preston look to have won the race to sign Republic of Ireland international Troy Parrott on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.

During a season-long loan at MK Dons last season, the 20-year-old scored 10 goals and provided seven assists from 47 appearances.

Lowe will be hoping that Parrott can have a similar influential impact to Cameron Archer who scored seven goals from 20 appearances after joining on loan from Aston Villa in January.
